From the Bottom to the Top – IPL 2015 Team Ratings: The eighth season of Indian Premiere League (IPL) 2015 has completed its voyage starting from the Eden Gardens to the same place in Kolkata after the mighty Mumbai Indians were crowned as the champions. Mumbai thrashed Chennai Super Kings to win their second IPL title equaling the record of runners up CSK and Kolkata Knight Riders. Eight teams were fighting for the glory with some extremely competitive cricket. Cricket Tracker looks back on the performances of all the eight teams with the season’s analysis. Watch out for the ratings of all the eight teams below. From the Bottom to the Top – IPL 2015 Team Ratings 8. Kings XI Punjab- (2/10): Kings XI Punjab 2015. (Photo Source: BCCI) The runners up of season 2014 were expected to perform and end this season on a similar note like they did last season. Contrary to all the expectations, the Punjab team finished at the bottom of the table with only 3 wins out of 14 league matches. They had a season to forget with seven successive losses, the most losses on trot by any team this season. Their last season star players were completely out of shape this season. The Indian batsmen in the squad performed poorly and skipper Bailey failed to manage his troops. However their bowling unit did click but could not do enough to win matches. 7. Delhi Daredevils- (4/10): Delhi Daredevils 2015. (Photo Source: BCCI) The Delhi team that was placed at the bottom in 2014, performed decent this year compared to its own performance last year. However DD was inconsistent this year with 5 wins out of 13 matches they played. Their form with bat and ball was not up to the mark and were never close to making it to the playoffs. They had some individual performances in skipper Duminy, opener Shreyas Iyer and the South African leggie Imran Tahir but in all as a team they were ineffective. The bowling performance of Delhi was average and with non performing all-rounder’s, the team finished 7th on the table. 6. Sunrisers Hyderabad- (5/10): SRH 2015. (Photo Source: BCCI) The Orange army seems to have booked the 6th spot in the points table. The team finished 6th last season and they remain on the same spot this season as well. A weak middle order and inconsistent bowling caused enough setbacks in crossing the line for the team. They registered 7 wins and earned 14 points in the tournament. A win more was what they needed to make it to the playoffs. They had few close finishes which did not go their way, not to forget the ‘Lagaan’ moment including skipper Warner catching the ball and touching the rope costing them utmost important 2 points. The orange army skipper bagged the Orange cap and was excellent with the bat but not at his best with his captaincy. 5. Kolkata Knight Riders- (6/10): Kolkata Knight Riders 2015. (Photo Source: BCCI) The Champions of 2014, finished 5th on the table this year. The Top-4 finish was on the cards and the team was on its way to make a mark this year again but failed to do so. Similar to Hyderabad team, they won 7 matches but had 15 points in the bag; courtesy a washout match against Rajasthan. KKR lost their last 2 league matches and faltered during the business end of the tournament costing them a playoff berth. 4. Rajasthan Royals- (6/10): Rajasthan Royals 2015. (Photo Source: BCCI) The Royals initiated the tournament in Royal fashion with some terrific display of batting and bowling. They registered 5 wins in their first 5 encounters and were on song for a top finish in the table. However they had a super over loss in the sixth encounter against Punjab which halted their winning streak and that seemed to have changed their fortunes. The Royals had a terrible run there on and could manage only 2 wins out of 9 matches. Rain also played its part with 2 of their matches washed out giving them 2 important points. The team therefore managed to just about qualify for the playoffs finishing with 16 points above KKR on the 4th spot. RR lost their eliminator match against RCB in the playoffs and ended their run in the tournament. 3. Royal Challengers Bangalore- (7/10): RCB 2015. (Photo Source: BCCI) The Royal Challengers had similar outing like the Rajasthan Royals. RCB registered 7 wins and had 2 washouts giving them exactly 16 points like Royals. The team finished 3rd on the table, all thanks to the better net run rate. RCB started off with 3 losses from first 4 matches and looked out of shape. However the return of their strike bowler Mitchell Starc into the XI changed the outlook of the team in the 5th match and provided them the much needed impetus. They looked invulnerable with their international stars performing well and their uncapped players stepping up with good performances. RCB won the eliminator against Royals but lost to Chennai Super Kings keeping them just about at distance from the finals of IPL 2015. 2. Chennai Super Kings- (8/10): CSK 2015. (Photo Source: BCCI) Arguably the most consistent side in the IPL history was prolific once again and managed to play the finals for a record 6th time. Looking formidable with the bat and with enough variety in the bowling unit, Super Kings were on top of the points table. CSK won 9 out of 14 matches and had 18 points, better than all the remaining teams in the league. With star studded players and some superb local talent, Chennai were on the course for a third IPL championship title. CSK were beaten by Mumbai in the first qualifier but thrashed RCB in the next eliminator and reached finals. Unfortunately they lost to Mumbai yet again in the finals and ended up as runners up for the 4th time this season. 1. Mumbai Indians- (9/10): Mumbai Indians IPL Winners 2015. (Photo Source: BCCI) The blue army had a terrible and a disastrous start with just 1 win out of first 6 league matches. Mumbai Indians were at the bottom of the table and their chances to qualify for the playoffs were negligible. Their overseas stars Corey Anderson and opener Aaron Finch were out due to injury. But then came a time when MI hit the winning note with two new entrants Simmons and McClenaghan, MI never looked back. Winning 7 out of their last 8 matches, the team qualified for the playoffs and booked themselves the 2nd spot in the points table.
