Gautam Gambhir hasn’t lost faith in Rohit Sharma – The Test batsman

There’s absolutely no doubt that Rohit Sharma has been one of the most dynamic Indian batsmen in the limited-overs formats. However, his Test career hasn’t flourished by any means. After making his debut in the longer format back in 2013 at his favorite Eden Gardens in Kolkata, the Mumbaikar has played only 27 matches in which he has churned out 1,585 runs with three tons and 10 fifties.

But, even as his performances at home has been excellent, the batter hasn’t quite been able to find his feet in challenging overseas conditions. Last year, he played the Test series against Australia and was once guilty of playing a rash stroke off Nathan Lyon. Nevertheless, he still has the chance of resurrecting his Test career as he is in the squad for the two-match series versus the Windies.

The series gets underway after the conclusion of the ODI series and Rohit will be looking to make the opportunity count. Gautam Gambhir, the former Indian cricketer, hasn’t lost faith on Rohit- The Test batsman. In his column for the Times of India (TOI), he described Rohit’s batting as flawless.

“Rohit Sharma is batting as if there is a GPS on his bat with location settings filtered for the white cricket ball. So flawless has been his display that even a coaching manual is looking like a grey market “first copy”. I think this is the moment when Rohit needs someone in his ears to convey the importance of this form. He needs to convert this into big and consistent scores,” Gambhir wrote.

A few words of advice by these legends may transform that

Gambhir, who’s currently a politician, reckoned that Rohit can do wonders in red-ball cricket if he is mentored by some legendary cricketers, including Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid. Moreover, Gambhir believes that an Indian lineup with Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli and Rohit can be a deadly prospect.

“Then, he needs to carry this batting form into Test cricket. I’d go on to say that if someone like a Rahul Dravid or Sachin Tendulkar mentors him for a few months, we may get a completely polished, Test-ready batsman. Sometimes Rohit just seems bored in Test cricket.”

“A few words of advice by these legends may transform that. If things start rolling for Rohit, just imagine India’s Test line up with Pujara at number three, Virat at 4 and Rohit at number 5,” Gambhir, who played 58 Tests himself, was quoted as saying.
