Glenn Maxwell abandons practice after being hit
Things have not been very pleasant for the Kings XI Punjab this season. The finalists of the 2014 edition, have now suffered another potential blow as their middle order batsman Glenn Maxwell aborted the practice session after being hit on his hands.
The severity of the injury is not known and hopefully, the Aussie batsman will take the field against the Gujarat Lions at Rajkot on Sunday. Maxwell was hit not just once but twice during the team’s practice session at Rajkot on Saturday.
He was first hit by the ball bowled by pacer Anureet Singh and was seen in pain. Some time later, another delivery struck his hands, following which Maxwell aborted the batting session. The ball was bowled by his former Aussie teammate Mitchell Johnson. Apparently, Maxwell threw his bat in pain and immediately called out for the team physio.
What remains to be a sigh of relief for his fans is that the swashbuckling batsman did return to the field but did not try his hands at batting, though. He, however, looked comfortable during the remainder of the fielding practice.
Coming into the IPL, Maxwell wasn’t in the best of forms and this was evident by the way he started in this season. It was only in the last match that Maxwell finally scored a half century, which must have come in as a sigh of relief for the team management. The team management will now hope for Maxwell to peak in the matches to follow as now is the high time that their middle-order finally gets their act together. Kings XI Punjab is placed at the bottom of the points table.
