Had a good night's sleep after scoring 264, reveals Rohit Sharma
After the game got over, I went to the hotel and slept well: Rohit
The day of November 13, 2014, belonged to one man named Rohit Sharma, who created history by toppling all records in ODI cricket by scoring a mammoth 264 against Sri Lanka during the tour of India in 2014.
Three years hence, Rohit and co. complete a full circle and face the same side on the same ground in a matter of few days. The ‘Hitman’ of Indian cricket was present at his favourite ground, at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, to talk about the details of the monumental innings days prior to it and following it.
Rohit was coming back into the 4th game of 5-match ODI series against Lanka after suffering a finger injury he sustained during the England tour of 2014.
As a result, the Mumbai Indian skipper revealed that he was very nervous while boarding the plane and hours prior to the match. Therefore, Rohit Sharma did not manage to get enough sleep before the match.
Went to the hotel and slept well: Rohit
“Prior to the match, I was very nervous as I didn’t sleep properly. Five-six hours of sleep is never a good idea before a big game. I walked out into the middle, played a lot of balls, took my time at the start and I can still remember that I scored my first fifty off 74 balls (73 balls actually),” commented Rohit Sharma according to his interview with BCCI.tv.
“As soon as I got to my 100, it was all about me making mistakes and getting out. I kept telling myself that I can bat as long as possible and try to get as many runs as possible. I kept batting and didn’t try to hit too many shots. As the outfield is really fast here, I was just trying to find gaps and hit the ball through that,” claimed the batsman who also scored his maiden Test ton on his debut and IPL ton on the very ground he scored his 264.
“I continued to bat and eventually, I got to that 264 score and we ended up scoring 404. After the game got over, I went to the hotel and slept well. It was a memorable day in my life and I cannot forget that. Yes, it is a historic ground and for me, it is a memorable one as it gave me a lot of memories to cherish,” concluded Rohit.
