Grew up idolising Dale Steyn: Trent Boult

New Zealand speedster Trent Boult has emerged as one of the leading fast bowlers in the world and has been among the very few bowlers who troubled the star-studded Indian batsmen during their tour to India last September. He was simply brilliant in the 2015 World Cup and was the most productive bowler for his team.

Boult is currently a part Kolkata Knight Riders squad in the IPL but after his poor performances in the first few games, Nathan Coulter-Nile has been preferred ahead of him. During an exclusive chat with Cricbuzz, Boult revealed his experience of playing India and how it is different from playing elsewhere in the world. He also revealed that as growing up Dale Steyn was his hero.

Boult and Steyn shared the same dressing room in IPL last year when they played for Sunrisers Hyderabad. They were part of the triumphant campaign but Boult played just a solitary game. He was asked whether getting picked ahead of his childhood hero was the highest point in his career.

”Not the highest point but it was one of those.  Dale Steyn is a massive childhood hero of mine and to share the dressing room was a really good experience. But it comes down to playing only 4 overseas players, so someones got to make room for someone. But not in my wildest dream did I think I would be ahead of Dale Steyn in the pecking order,” Boult replied.

He revealed that the margin for error was minimal in T20 cricket. “Its about thinking on your feet and keeping the pressure on the batsman and make less errors on your part”. As a bowler he revealed that it was quite challenging as the margin for error was minimal,” he quipped.

”It’s simply taking wickets and putting pressure on opposition.” “The pressure of playing as an overseas bowler is still the same but I look to enjoy myself and take wickets.” he further added.
