Haryana woman cricketer raped; police accused of inaction
According to police, the main accused is on the run.
From time to time, many heartbreaking stories of female cricketers surface the web which creates a stir temporarily before getting sedimented permanently under the layers of ignorance and negligence. One such unfortunate incident took place in Haridwar, and according to the victim, police are yet to take action. A woman cricketer, who claims to be part of the Haryana woman cricket team, has been raped by a priest.
The main story
The victim claimed that she came to know about Vidyanand, the main accused, through a male acquaintance of her friend. Vidyanand asked the lady to come to Haridwar, where by promising to marry her, the priest raped her in the doorway of god’s own land (as Haridwar is known to the locals by its name). The woman lodged a complaint in the Hisar Sadar police and the police have booked four persons till now. The woman went to the DGP of Haryana police, BS Sandhu, who came to Hisar on Sunday to check the security arrangements of the place.
The cricketer has accused the police of inaction and said that they have not been able to do their job till now. Not only this, the woman also claimed that a police inspector verbally abused her. Though the four persons, including the main guilty party, were booked in March, the police have not yet been able to catch the priest who is on the run at the moment.
Statement from the police
Hisar SP Manisha Chaudhary confirmed that the police have arrested one person till now, but the main accused is yet to come under their grasp. “The main accused is on the run and we are conducting raids to arrest him. We will arrest him as soon as possible,” said Chaudhury, as per quotes in the Times of India.
