West Indies limited-overs captain Nicholas Pooran said he is proud of his team despite losing the three-match ODI series against Pakistan. Pakistan won the third match on Sunday by a big margin of 53 runs (D/L method) after an all-round performance from vice-captain Shadab Khan, who scored 86 runs and later took four wickets as well.

Pakistan dominated the traveling side in every department with consistently big performances in all three matches. In-form batters Babar Azam and Imam-ul-Haq scored big runs and returning duo Shadab and Mohammad Nawaz impressed all with seven wickets each in this series.

The opening batter Shai Hope scored the only century for West Indies in this series and Akeal Hosein was the only bowler to take five-plus wickets. Pooran struggled to continue his red-hot T20 form in the ODI format but ended this tour with four wickets. The West Indies side have very few positives to gain from this tour but Pooran feels that they are growing strong as a unit and that’s more important.

We didn’t get the results we wanted: Nicholas Pooran

“We didn’t get the results we wanted, but I am so proud of this team for sticking together through difficult periods and putting everything on the line for the people of the West Indies. I feel like we are growing closer by the day and that is the most important thing as We build this unit! Thanks for having us Pakistan,” Pooran wrote in his Instagram post.

The 26-year-old wicketkeeper-batter surprised everyone with his bowling skills in the last match. He had bowled only three balls at the international level before bowling ten overs yesterday. He took four big wickets of Fakhar Zaman, Imam-ul-Haq, Mohammad Rizwan, and Mohammad Haris at an impressive economy rate of 4.80.

West Indies rank ninth in ICC Men’s ODI teams chart, with just three points ahead of the tenth-placed Afghanistan side. They will next play Bangladesh at home in a series of two Tests, three ODIs, and three T20Is, starting from June 16.
