I am sure there will be obstacles, but Arjun will be prepared: Sachin Tendulkar
He admitted that Arjun will have to handle the pressure since he carries a popular last name but he hasn’t addressed it as an issue.
Arjun Tendulkar well before making a name for himself with his exploits on the cricket field has had all eyes on him. He carries a lot of weight with his last name ‘Tendulkar’ which makes him a subject of public scrutiny every now and then. His father, the biggest name in Indian cricket Sachin Tendulkar has said that he doesn’t interfere in his son’s cricket and just wants to let him enjoy the sport.
Arjun recently made his U19 debut for the Indian team on the tour of Sri Lanka. He featured in both the Youth Test matches that the visiting team won and ended up with 3 wickets. It wasn’t a memorable tour as the 18-year-old didn’t add a lot of runs with the bat either. Sachin wants the younger one to be left on his own and whenever he talks about him it is as a father and not a cricketer.
Have given him the freedom
The cricketing legend is sure that the teenager will be able to navigate his way through till the time he is passionate about the sport. There will be obstacles at various levels but Sachin is certain he will find a way through it.
“I have given him freedom to do whatever he wants. He is a left-arm seamer, he is enjoying his cricket and I don’t interfere too much. As long as he is passionate about playing cricket, I’m sure there will be obstacles, but he will be prepared,” Tendulkar told BBC Test Match Special.
He admitted that Arjun will have to handle the pressure since he carries a popular last name but he hasn’t addressed it as an issue.
“There is going to be pressure because of the name but I have not spoken much about these things but I have told the India media that I am speaking to them as a father not a cricketer,” he added.
