I don't think ending the IPL is the answer to the situation: Pat Cummins
Pat Cummins recently donated $50,000 to boost India's fight against COVID-19.
The 14th edition of the Indian Premier League is going on in India amid all the adversities and testing times. With COVID-19 cases touching a new high in India every day, the situation has created a sense of panic and fear among the people. The cricketers inside the bio-bubble of IPL are also in constant fear and in the same light, Australian star Pat Cummins has come up with a big statement.
With many big names opining on whether the tournament should go on or not, Cummins feels that canceling the entire T20 league is not the answer to the situation. On Thursday, April 28, India reported 379,257 new cases and 3,645 new deaths. He stated that playing some 3-4 hours at night keeps people at home and a little engaged and ending IPL is just not the answer.
“We are doing everything we can to make sure we don’t take any resources out of the frontline.
“There’s an aspect that us playing every night for three or four hours hopefully contributes to making people stay at home more, or at least… can help them get through each day. I don’t think ending the IPL is the answer,” said Cummins as quoted by the WION news channel.
Many cricketers like Adam Zampa, Kane Richardson, and Andrew Tye have already returned back amid the IPL 2021 edition owing to various reasons circling COVID-19 and bio-bubble fatigue. Many cricketers have also stated that the T20 league must not carry on as the nation is struggling with the huge second wave of the virus.
