I love Steve Smith but he shouldn’t be in the T20 team: Shane Warne
Australia lost to England by eight wickets where Smith gathered just one run.
Australia suffered a terrible loss against England in the last game of T20 World Cup 2021 held in Dubai. Criticizing the horrible loss of Australia, former legendary spinner Shane Warne came down hard on his team and questioned a few selections. He didn’t approve the selection of ace batter Steve Smith in the T20I side who failed against England in Dubai.
Warne stated that it was a poor selection from the Australian team barring Marsh and Glenn Maxwell. Smith who is considered one of the greatest batters in the longest format of the game, failed to get going against England as he collected just one run off five balls.
“Disappointing selection from Australia leaving Marsh out & Maxwell batting in the power play (he should always come in after power play). Stoinis should have gone in. Poor strategy & tactics from the Aussies. I love Smith but he shouldn’t be in the T/20 team. Marsh has to be !!” tweeted Warne.
Warne further lauded the efforts produced by England and called them a proper T20 team. England chased down the meager total of 125 runs with eight wickets to spare and more than eight overs remaining. Warne further appreciated Pakistan also who sit at the top in group two winning all their three games. Meanwhile, England are also the table-toppers from group one.
Shane Warne lauds Pakistan and England’s game in T20 World Cup
“Proper T/20 cricket that from England! Australia will hopefully learn how they need to play after that smashing, they copped from the Poms. Pakistan & England are showing how to play T/20 cricket. Australia need to change their thinking restyle of play plus the team!” he added.
Two teams from each group will move for the semi-finals and finals will be played in Dubai on November 14. Australia were already under a great scanner after their back-to-back dismal performances in the T20Is. They still need to perform well if they wish to eye the semi-finals spot. Australia are currently in the 3rd slot with South Africa on no two position in group one.
