Chennai Super Kings (CSK) failed to make the playoffs in the 2020 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and were knocked out with three games left in the round-robin stage. For the first time in the history of the championship, MS Dhoni and Co couldn’t make the top four. Their batting looked lacklustre and despite a series of wins in the end, they couldn’t change their fortunes.

In the meantime, Scott Styris, the former New Zealand cricketer, reckons that the Super Kings would end up at the bottom of the points table in the upcoming edition. As per Styris, Mumbai Indians (MI) should finish atop the points table in the league stage with Delhi Capitals (DC), Punjab Kings (PBKS), and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) being the other teams to make the playoffs.

He also feels that Kolkata Knight Riders’ (KKR) batting issues won’t help their cause in the tournament. Styris is also pretty concerned for the Rajasthan Royals (RR), mostly because of Chris Morris and Jofra Archer’s fitness issues. He took to Twitter to put forth his predictions.

Here’s the tweet:

However, the tweet didn’t seem to go down well with the Super Kings by any means. The franchise posted a picture of Styris, donning the CSK jersey, and asked him the reason behind putting CSK at the bottom.

Later, Styris, in a hilarious way, also apologised for the same. He replied to CSK’s message and wrote, “I consider myself reprimanded. Super coach @SPFleming7 has already told me off.”

Styris played for the defunct Deccan Chargers in the first three seasons of the IPL. In 2011, he played two games for the Super Kings, scoring five runs and not being able to pick up a wicket. In 12 IPL games, Styris scored 131 runs and picked up eight wickets.

CSK struggling to find Josh Hazlewood’s replacement

Going into the upcoming edition, CSK are faced with a few troubles. The team is yet to find a replacement for fast bowler Josh Hazlewood, who has pulled out of the tournament. The Aussie speedster told that before Australia’s hectic schedule, he needed time with his family and wanted to stay away from bio-security bubbles for a while.
