Virat Kohli also revealed that he was always watching his team play during the Test series against Australia.
Virat Kohli is back with the Indian team after missing the last three Test matches against Australia. He had to leave the team after the first Test, as he had taken off from the tour to be with his wife, Anushka Sharma for the birth of their first child. The couple gave birth to a daughter, who they named Vamika.
Ahead of the first Test against England which is starting on February 5 in Chennai, the Indian captain was asked how he felt when he had to leave the team when they were short of confidence after losing the first Test badly and had got dismissed for just 36, the lowest Test score for any Indian team.
While answering the question, the captain revealed that becoming a father has been the greatest moment of his life. He also said that the connection with his team didn’t go away as he has been leading the team for the past six years. He expressed his desire to take the Indian team to the heights of success and staying motivated to take Test cricket on the top.
The connection with the team doesn’t go away in any situation: Virat Kohli
“The two cannot be compared. To me, becoming a father has been and will remain the greatest moment of my life. That is something that has to be experienced to understand what I am saying. The connection with the team doesn’t go away in any situation, especially when you have given everything for the team, especially for the Test team for the last six years on a daily basis. Being motivated to take Test cricket on top, take Indian cricket on top and the whole group has put in so much effort,” Kohli said during the pre-match press conference.
The captain also revealed that he was always watching his team play during the Test series. India beat Australia in a dramatic situation at the Gabba and clinched the series 2-1. “You are connected invariably and I was watching all the games. In the last Test, when Shardul and Sundar were going through a partnership, I was watching it on my phone just before when we had to go in when the doctor called,” he added.
