I would like to play in all three formats if I get the chance: Bhuvneshwar Kumar
Kumar asserted that his preparations have always been for all the formats and not just the white-ball games.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar wasn’t the part of the Indian side to tour England for the World Test Championship final. When the pacing unit of India seemed to struggle in the English conditions, there was a lot of chatter on the inclusion of Bhuvneshwar in the team. Previously reports suggested that the pacer wasn’t too keen to take on red-ball cricket.
However, he has put end to all questions swirling in the wind by stating that he desires to play across formats for India. In white-ball cricket, he has been an important aspect for the team with the early breakthroughs he has given the team. However, currently the vice-captain of the India side on the Sri Lanka tour, Bhuvneshwar Kumar asserted that his preparations have always been for all the formats and not just the white ball games.
“I don’t have a set priority between white-ball and red-ball cricket. If I am selected for playing red-ball cricket then definitely I would like to contribute. But I am not looking to prioritize anything. I would like to play in all three formats if I get the chance. I am not looking way ahead but definitely, I would prepare myself to play all three formats.” Bhuvneshwar Kumar said speaking to reporters at a virtual media conference.
Don’t think that the team in England or the team here in Sri Lanka is main: Bhuvneshwar Kumar
With India set to face England for the Test match series, an alternative team is been sent for the Sri Lanka tour. However, this team possesses a good combination of young and experienced players and is the exemplification of the talent the country beholds. Thus, Bhuvneshwar Kumar pointed out that both the teams are strong and competitive enough.
“I don’t think that the team in England or the team here in Sri Lanka is main. Both are Indian teams,” he said.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar has often had to battle out injuries in his career. Owing to this he had to miss on a few series in the past. But opening about it, the 31-year-old said that it is all part of a player’s career and he is always determined to get back in shape as soon as possible.
“Injuries and ups and downs happen in a career. I just try to recover from injuries as soon as I can and get back to contributing to my best.”
