Analysis: ICC ODI team of the year 2015: The ICC today announced its Test and ODI teams of the year, as chosen by a specially appointed selection panel chaired by the ICC’s Cricket Committee chairman and former India captain Anil Kumble. The qualification period ran from September 18th, 2014 to September 13th, 2015 and the selection panel included past greats of the world game including former West Indies fast bowler Ian Bishop, former England batsman Mark Butcher, former Australia women’s captain Belinda Clark and Mr. G. In the year 2015, Dilshan played 22 ODI games, scoring 1100 runs at an average of 55.00 and a staggering strike rate of 90.38. He has curved four centuries and 5 fifties this year, along with the highest score of 161 against Bangladesh at the cricket world cup 2015. He boasts a healthy average of 50.57 from 23 ODI matches. Amla has plundered 1062 runs at a strike rate of 94.90, with four centuries and three fifties. (© Getty Images) Kumar Sangakkara maintained a strike rate of 102.86 from 14 matches this year. He has been instrumental in Sri Lanka crossing the finishing line on many occasions. He has grinded 862 runs at a humungous average of 86.20, with 5 centuries and 2 fifties. He stood out in the global event too, with four back to back centuries (105* v Bangladesh, 117* v England, 104 v Australia and 124 v Scotland). Sri Lanka failed to repeat the 1996 feat, but Kumar Sangakkara hanged his boots on a high. AB de Villiers (South Africa) (Captain): Ab de Villiers. AB de Villiers took home many silverwares this season (7 man-of-the-series and 20 man-of-the-match) and plundered 1193 runs at an average of 79.53, with the fastest ODI century (149 from 44 balls) against West Indies. He has 2 centuries and 5 half centuries to his credit. He also grabbed the honors of player of the match on 5 occasions. Clearly his rich form with the bat has reflected in Australia’s current run at international cricket. Ross Taylor (New Zealand): Ross Taylor. He has scored 1041 runs from 24 matches at an average of 61.23 and with a strike rate of 81.96. Taylor has piled up 4 centuries and same number of half centuries this year. In 17 ODI’s, Boult has scalped 36 wickets at an average of 19.77. He has a prolific economy rate of 4.44 this year along with one fifer and two man-of-the-match awards. He has also picked up 3 four-wicket hauls for the world cup runners up. Trent Boult is a part of both the ICC Test and ODI team of the year. Mohammed Shami (India): Mohammed Shami. He has 19 wickets in his kitty from 11 ODI games at an average of 20.63 and an economy of 4.77. His fine outing against Pakistan during the World Cup this year will go down as the highlight for Shami. He picked up 4 wickets for 35 runs against the arch-rivals. Mitchell Starc (Australia): Mitchell Starc. (© Getty Images) The Australian fast bowler will lead the bowling pack in this elite club. He has been phenomenal this year, and the chief architect of Australia’s world domination. He has picked up 41 wickets from 18 games at an average of 16.26. Mitchell Starc boasts an economy of 4.61 this year while picking up 4 man-of-the-series awards. He has a couple of fifers to his credit as well. Starc has come of age this year and his perfect strategy against Brendon McCullum in the World Cup final, shows the thinker he is. Mustafizur Rahman (Bangladesh): Mustafizur Rahman. (Photo Source: AFP) The Bangladeshi sensation has grabbed the headlines this year. If there is one player who deserves the lion’s share of credit for the tigers home run, it is Mustafizur. He has 26 ODI wickets this year from just 9 games at an average of 12.34 and an economy of 4.26. He has three fifers and two man-of-the-match awards to his credit. It has been a record-breaking year for the promising talent and world cricket would hope he continues in the same fashion. Imran Tahir (South Africa): Imran Tahir. (Photo Source: BCCI) The leg-break googly bowler will thanks his stars for the impressive year. In 22 matches, Tahir has scalped 37 wickets at an average of 25.18 and an economy of 4.68. He has one fifer and a couple of 4-wicket hauls this year. His 5 wickets for 45 runs against West Indies at the world cup was one of the most vital games for the Punjab-born, as he turned the match on its head. 12th Man: Joe Root (England) Joe Root. (© Getty Images) He won’t carry the drinks for long. Joe Root has scored 723 runs from 10 matches at an average of 42.52, along with 3 centuries and 4 fifties. He has an impressive strike rate of 91.98 and played some crucial knocks for the team. Root has also won 3 man-of-the-match awards this year.
