England were stunned by Pakistan in their last outing at Trent Bridge. England’s bowlers had a bad day at the office as Pakistan recovered from a poor start to the tournament to post a daunting total of 348 for 8. The likes of Sarfaraz Ahmed, Mohammad Hafeez and Babar Azam scored fine fifties to guide their team to the huge total. In reply, England were off to a poor start and lost four wickets for just 118. However, Joe Root and Jos Buttler came up with fine knocks and scored centuries to revive their team’s hopes. But Pakistan held on and restricted England to 334 for 9 to register a confidence-boosting 14-run win.
Bangladesh, on the other hand, lost a thriller against New Zealand. Chasing 245, New Zealand were comfortably placed at 160 for 2 with Ross Taylor and Kane Williamson going strong in the middle. However, Bangladesh clawed their way back by reducing New Zealand to 191 for 5. The Tigers then struck twice in quick succession to remove Jimmy Neesham and Colin de Grandhomme and leave New Zealand 218-7, needing 27 from 39 balls. Matt Henry was bowled by Mohammad Saifuddin with seven required but Lockie Ferguson and Mitchell Santner made sure to take the Kiwis over the line with 17 balls to spare.
Both England and Bangladesh will be keen to get back to winning ways. England will be also looking to avenge their loss to Bangladesh in the last World Cup. But taking Bangladesh lightly could prove costly for England as the Tigers are very much capable of beating any team on their day.
