Windies have put themselves in a critical position at the World Cup 2019 where are doubtful of finishing in top four despite winning their remaining three games. The Caribbean team began the tournament in a sensational way by demolishing Pakistan but failed to live up the expectations in the following matches. They will be now up against New Zealand who are cruising with four wins and are one of the two sides who are unbeaten in the tournament.

All the key stats and numbers ahead of the Windies’ do-or-die game against New Zealand:

3New Zealand defeated Windies in each of their previous three games at the World Cup. The last time Windies got better of the Kiwis in the CWC was in 1999 edition. The Caribbean team won all the three CWC games they played in England against New Zealand but lost all four they played outside England.


4 – Windies lost each of the last four ODI matches they played against New Zealand. In fact, Windies won only one of the seven ODI games against New Zealand since the start of 2014.


12Kane Williamson has scored 40 and more runs in each of his previous 12 ODI innings in England. In those 12 innings, Williamson ended up scoring three centuries and seven fifties. His 40 against Bangladesh was the lowest score in these 12 innings.


15.58 – Trent Boult has a bowling average of 15.58 in ODIs against the Windies. In seven ODIs against the Caribbean team, Boult bagged 17 wickets at a strike rate of 21.7. However, in four ODIs at home, he took 14 wickets against the Windies but only three wickets in three games outside New Zealand.


50 – Both Ross Taylor and Martin Guptill average over 50 with the bat against the Windies. Guptill scored 588 runs in 12 ODI innings at an average of 58.8 and scored the highest individual CWC score of 237* in 2015. Taylor, on the other hand, aggregated 636 runs from 16 innings thus far at an average of 53.


939 – Chris Gayle needs 61 more runs to become the 3rd player to score 1000 runs in Windies-New Zealand ODIs. Only Brian Lara (1068) and Nathan Astle (1014) have scored more runs in WI-NZ ODIs than Gayle. Gayle scored those 939 runs from 27 innings at an average of 37.56 with two centuries and four fifties.


942 – Martin Guptill needs 58 more runs to complete 1000 runs in the World Cup. Only Stephen Fleming (1075) scored over 1000 runs in the Men’s ODI World Cups for New Zealand thus far.
