The Bangladesh team is now pushed into a situation where they need to win both their matches. If the Mashrafe Mortaza-led team get the better of India and Pakistan in the last two matches, they will be through also if New Zealand defeat England on Wednesday. However, if in case England win that game, Bangladesh has to fight for NRR with New Zealand and even with India if they lose to Sri Lanka on the last day of the league stage.

Considering NRRs, this is what Bangladesh need:

To move ahead of New Zealand – For Bangladesh, surpassing New Zealand’s NRR is easier than that of India at the moment. If England comes out all guns blazing against the Kiwis and defeat them by 100 runs, Bangladesh can go through if they beat India and Pakistan by 70 runs apiece. (Collective winning margin for Bangladesh should be 140 runs)

To move ahead of India – Bangladesh is close to 300 runs behind India on NRR. If Bangladesh can beat India by a margin as big as 100 runs, the NRR difference comes down to 100 runs.

With another possible 100-run win against Pakistan, the Bangla Tigers would need Sri Lanka to beat India irrespective of the margin.
