Cricket is being played in Afghanistan since the mid 19th century. But the sport never came into the limelight as it did in the last few years. Ever since they were awarded the ICC ODI status in 2011, the cricketing standards in the country have only improved.

The quality of cricket that the Afghans are playing at the moment is so good that they can give a tough competition to any team in the world. Their performance in the recently concluded Asia Cup is a testimony of their capability. A little bit of fortune on their side could have easily put them in the finals of the tournament.

The Afghanistan cricket team will be making history next year when they will take part in the World Cup 2019. This will be the first time they will take part in the mega-tournament and it will indeed be a proud moment for the nation. Of course, they deserve every bit of it because they were the champions in the ICC World Cup Qualifiers 2018. On that note, here are the three teams who Afghanistan have the ability to beat in the mega event.

1. Windies

The condition of the Windies cricket team in recent times is not so good. With most of their big guns rejecting the central contract and playing T20 leagues, the team hasn’t been able to find quite capable players. However, the board is persisting with the current crop of players which is a good sign.

But still, most of them have failed to perform on a consistent basis. The team lost to Afghanistan in the final of the World Cup Qualifier as well. Hence, the Afghans, under the leadership of Asghar Aghan will fancy their chances against the Windies. They would settle for nothing except for a win and the Windies will have to be wary and extra-cautious about them.
