ICC World Cup 2019: VVS Laxman predicts India's squad for the tournament
The biggest surprise was Rishabh Pant's exclusion.
With the World Cup less than three months away, there has been a lot of fuss regarding the probable Indian squad. While most of the players have booked their spots, there is still uncertainty over a couple of them. With the ongoing Australian series subjected to be India’s last assignment before the World Cup, many cricketers will be hellbent in proving themselves worthwhile.
Many ex-cricketers have made an attempt to predict India’s World Cup squad. The latest entrant to the list was former Indian player VVS Laxman. Renowned for his classical batting during his playing days, the former Hyderabad cricketer named an interesting fifteen member squad for the World Cup speaking at Star Sports.
No Rishabh Pant in Laxman’s World Cup squad
The batting order was quite predictable as the top 3 and MS Dhoni made an automatic entry to the squad. For the middle order, the likes of Ambati Rayudu, Kedar Jadhav and Dinesh Karthik were the preferred choices. Hardik Pandya was the lone all-rounder in the squad. The biggest surprise was Rishabh Pant’s exclusion. The wicketkeeper-batsman is a part of the current limited-overs series against Australia.
Even the all-rounder duo of Ravindra Jadeja and Vijay Shankar failed to find a place in Laxman’s predicted squad. The bowling attack included Khaleel Ahmed. KL Rahul was chosen as the extra opener in the team. The final squad has to be announced before the 23rd of April. With the IPL scheduled to commence in three weeks, it is highly likely to influence the World Cup squad.
