ICC World T20 2016: Teams, Squads, Schedule and Fixtures
The ICC World T20 2016 begins in Nagpur on 8 March with 16 teams set to clash with each other for the title. This was confirmed after all the 16 teams submitted their squad for the 27-day long tournament, which will be played at eight venues across India with Eden Gardens in Kolkata to host the finals on 3 April.
ICC stated that 19 men’s players are set to feature for the sixth straight time. Bangladesh (five players) will be fielding the most players with world cup experience. The names include Mashrafe Mortaza, Shakib Al Hasan, Tamim Iqbal, Mahmudullah and Mushfiqur Rahim have played in all the events since its inaugural 2007 in South Africa.
Dhoni, Rohit Sharma, Yuvraj Singh from India and Dwayne Bravo, Chris Gayle and Denesh Ramdin from West Indies are the players who have participated in the previous events.
Nathan McCullum, Ross Taylor (both New Zealand), AB de Villiers, JP Duminy (both South Africa), Tillakaratne Dilshan, Lasith Malinga (both Sri Lanka), Shahid Afridi (Pakistan) and Shane Watson (Australia) are the other players to attend their sixth straight ICC World Twenty20.
The Indian team led by MS Dhoni was crowned as the inaugural champions in 2007 after beating Pakistan in a thriller. Pakistan won the next edition in 2009, making up for the loss in the first edition. The 2010 edition belonged to England while the year of 2012 belonged to the Caribbean calypso as West Indies won their first title after 29 years. Sri Lanka is the defending champions after winning the last edition.
