IND vs SL: Jasprit Bumrah's peach to castle Pathum Nissanka turns out to be no-ball
Jasprit Bumrah bowled a no-ball which cost him an important wicket in the first innings against Sri Lanka.
India finished their first innings outstandingly well declaring at 574/8 after winning the toss and electing to bat first, riding on wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant’s brilliant 96 and an unbeaten 175 from the middle-order sensation Ravindra Jadeja. The Indian bowlers then chipped in with two wickets with the spin duo of Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin accounting for skipper Dimuth Karunaratne and Lahiru Thrimanne respectively.
While the spinners made merry, pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah also bowled decently and in fact, could have easily registered one more scalp to his name had he not overstepped. Bumrah’s front foot no-ball issues have hurt the Indian team so many times in the past with Pakistan opener Fakhar Zaman’s case being the most famous one during the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 final.
Jasprit Bumrah’s brilliant delivery goes in vain
This happened in the 32nd over of the Sri Lankan innings. On the third ball, the premier pacer had bowled a dream slower delivery which was completely missed by Pathum Nissanka and it went on to hit on top of the stumps. A delighted Jasprit Bumrah set off in ecstasy to celebrate. Unfortunately, his celebrations cut short in moments when the third umpire intervened and replay showed that the speedster has overstepped. The batter got a reprieve while skipper Rohit Sharma expressed disappointment with a few facial gestures.

Even though Bumrah was unsuccessful on that occasion, he did eventually go on to bag his first wicket of the contest when the Indian quick trapped the senior Sri Lankan all-rounder plumb in front of the wicket for 22.
As this is written, the visitors have lost four wickets after crossing the 100-run mark with Pathum Nissanka and the middle-order batter Charith Asalanka being at the crease as they look to rebuild the Lankan innings in order to reduce their huge first innings deficit. Senior offie R Ashwin is the pick of the bowlers with two wickets. Bumrah and Jadeja have also picked up a wicket each.
