IND vs SL: Mayank Agarwal commits harakiri as he runs himself out attempting non-existent single
Mayank Agarwal lost his wicket as he needlessly ran himself out on Day one of the second Test.
After a comprehensive win in the first Test at Mohali last week, an upbeat India would be hoping to wrap up the series by getting the better of Sri Lanka in the second and final match at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. The contest is being played under lights with the pink ball and Virat Kohli’s last ton came in a pink-ball match only.
Meanwhile, the coin once again landed in the favor of the home captain Rohit Sharma who had no hesitation in batting first. He along with his opening partner Mayank Agarwal set out to lay a solid foundation for the hosts in the all-important game. However, the latter’s stay at the crease came to an abrupt end.
Mayank Agarwal commits a blunder on the 22 yards
This happened on the fourth delivery of the second over bowled by Vishwa Fernando. Fernando bowled a length delivery that literally swung in from the middle and rapped the batter on his pads. There was a huge appeal from the Sri Lankans for an lbw but, the on-field umpire had no interest as he shook his head instantly.
As the ball went towards the point, Agarwal suddenly sprinted off for a non-existent single. Nonetheless, Rohit did not take any risk from the non-striker’s end as he was aware there was no run. the point fielder Praveen Jayawickrama collected the ball and calmly threw it to wicketkeeper Niroshan Dickwella who whipped off the bails as Mayank Agarwal took a long walk back to the pavilion.

It was indeed a waste of a wicket as the umpire then signaled a no-ball and Agarwal would have been adjudged not out had the visitors taken a review. More importantly, he would have also been able to make the most of the free-hit on the following delivery. That did not happen and the hosts found themselves in a spot of bother early on.
