The India U19 recently registered a thumping win in the ICC U19 World Cup 2018. Unlike the previous editions, this edition was a special one for the Indian team. The prime reason for this being the fact that not only the batsmen but the bowlers also made merry in the tournament. One of the top performers for the Indian team was Kamlesh Nagarkoti.

The pacer from Rajasthan hogged the limelight following his fiery spells wherein he clocked speeds in excess of 145 kmph consistently. His efforts also fetched him an IPL contract with Kolkata Knight Riders. And now, before heading in to the IPL, Kamlesh Nagarkoti is set to practice under Glenn McGrath at the MRF Pace Foundation in Chennai. As per the quotes in Sportstarlive, Nagarkoti expressed his excitement for his second visit to the academy.

“MRF is a good place to learn. I am going there for the second time and I am eager to learn the nuances of different bowling variations – like the slower ball, the yorkers etc. This would be my second visit to MRF. I went there in 2017 and unfortunately, I suffered a groin injury then. So my time with McGrath and other coaches was limited to gym workouts, training and rehabilitation along with sessions on medium pace, the way we grip the ball etc. I am looking forward to my visit, later this month,” Kamlesh Nagarkoti quoted.

Learning the different aspects

Talking about his expectations from IPL 2018, Kamlesh Nagarkoti noted that he is heading in to the tournament to learn the different aspects of the game. He wishes to know how to go forward against big hitting batsman like Chris Gayle. He hopes to pick up brains from his fellow bowlers at the KKR camp.

“I am only thinking about the learning prospects the IPL is offering. It would be great to learn and understand how to bowl to a batsman like Chris Gayle,” he noted.

On his fiery speed

One of the prime reasons why Kamlesh Nagarkoti bagged a lot of headlines was his sheer pace. Talking about his pace, the Rajasthan bowler expressed his amazement at his speed. He noted that he usually played matches where there were no speed guns.

“We play in matches where there are no speed guns. I knew I breached the 143 kmph mark in England when we played there but bowling at those speeds in the U-19 World Cup was a surprise,” Nagarkoti pointed out.

Furthermore, he also stressed on the importance of fitness for any bowler in the modern day cricket. He cited that a lot of effort goes in to fitness and the diet. “As medium pacers, we have to do that. A lot of effort also goes into training and in the diet. We have to make sure we know what is good and what works for our bodies,” he conceded.
