India vs New Zealand, 1st T20I, Match Preview, Playing XI and broadcast details
Rohit Sharma has a massive task at hand after taking over from Virat Kohli as India's T20I skipper.
India and New Zealand are set to cross swords in the first game of the three-match T20I series on Wednesday, November 17 at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. The Men in Blue had a disappointing campaign in the World Cup as they failed to qualify for the playoffs despite winning their last three games.
The upcoming series is also Rohit Sharma’s first as India’s full-time T20I skipper. Rahul Dravid also has a massive task in hand after taking over from Ravi Shastri as the national head coach. The Kiwis, in the meantime, won’t be having the services of Kane Williamson, who was exceptional in the World Cup final.
However, Lockie Ferguson, who missed the mega event due to injury, is expected to make a comeback. The two teams recently faced each other in the World Cup where the Kiwis came out trumps without much fuss. Trent Boult was brilliant in that game after he picked up three important Indian wickets.
Playing Combinations for India vs New Zealand
India
India have picked a number of batters, who have done well as an opener in the recent past. Rohit and Rahul are most likely to open the batting. It won’t be a surprise if one of Harshal Patel and Avesh Khan gets an opportunity. Yuzvendra Chahal is most likely to find his way into the eleven after missing the World Cup. It’s also a chance for Ravi Ashwin to cement his place in the white-ball team.
Probable XI
Rohit Sharma (C), KL Rahul, Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav, Shreyas Iyer/Axar Patel, Rishabh Pant (wk), Deepak Chahar, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Ravi Ashwin, Yuzvendra Chahal, Harshal Patel/Avesh Khan
Bench: Ruturaj Gaikwad, Venkatesh Iyer, Axar Patel/Shreyas Iyer, Harshal Patel/Avesh Khan, Mohammed Siraj
New Zealand
Martin Guptill and Daryl Mitchell looked in good form in the World Cup. They need to take more responsibility at the top in the absence of Williamson. If Ferguson is fit enough then Adam Milne may have to make way for him in the eleven. Ish Sodhi and Mitchell Santner are expected to play crucial roles for their teams. The onus will also be on the likes of Tim Seifert and Glenn Phillips.
