India vs South Africa: Indian squad for the tour - 2013 and Now
2018 is here and it has brought with it the much talked-about clash between India and South Africa.
Spinners – Ravichandran Ashwin
Ravichandran Ashwin has proved his skills with the willow and the red cherry on plenty of occasions and there is no reason to expect otherwise from him in 2018. Ashwin bowled only in the Johannesburg Test in 2013, in which he went without a wicket and was replaced by Ravindra Jadeja in the ranks subsequently for the remainder of the Test series.
Following the 2013 series, Ashwin has aided the team on both fronts by scoring 1267 runs in 36 Tests, along with picking up 200 wickets at an average of 23.85 against the best of teams. He’ll be a vital cog for the young Indian side and his experience of years, in particular, will come in handy for his team.
Ravindra Jadeja
Essentially a powerful all-rounder, Ravindra Jadeja will serve as a close contest to Ashwin for the spinner’s slot in the team. If past records are something to go by, the 29-year old southpaw had dismissed 6 Protean batsmen in the first innings of the Durban Test back in 2013 and will be eager to repeat that performance more than once in the upcoming tour.
The 2014-17 has kept Jadeja busy as he’s scored 1071 runs in 29 Tests at an average of 32.45 and simultaneously bagged 132 dismissals at an average of 24.44.
