West Indies managed to carry their good form from the T20I series as they stunned the Indian team to take a 1-0 lead in the 3-match ODI series. Shimron Hetmyer was the key in taking the West Indies through in the 288-run chase in Chennai. India will be taking positives from the defeat as Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant scored crucial runs after top-order’s failure. The 2nd match of this ODI series will be played in Vizag. This game will be a do-or-die one for India who needs to win it to stay alive in the series.

All the key stats and numbers ahead of the crucial 2nd ODI match to be hosted by Vizag:

1 – Only once since the start of 2003 that India has lost the first two matches of an ODI series at home. India went down 0-2 after two games in the 3-match ODI series against Pakistan in 2012. In this period, India lost the first match of a home ODI series during eight other series. They won the 2nd match of the series in all those 8 occasions to square the series.


4 – India lost each of their last four ODI matches at home; a streak that began from the 3rd ODI against Australia. In the last three decades, the Men in Blue lost four consecutive ODIs at home only twice. The other such instance came in 2005 where India lost the 6-match ODI series to Pakistan by 2-4 margin after taking a lead of 2-0.


4 – West Indies won their last four ODI matches; their longest winning streak in this format since the start of 2015. They have not won five successive ODIs since the start of 2011.

The Caribbeans defeated Afghanistan 3-0 in the ODI series hosted by Lucknow. This meant West Indies have won each of their last four ODIs on Indian soil. The last instance of the Caribbean team winning four successive ODIs in India was way back in October 1989.


5Virat Kohli has scored fifty-plus runs in all the five ODI matches he has played in Vizag. Kohli aggregates 556 runs at an average of 139 at this venue with the help of three hundreds and two fifties.

Against West Indies, Kohli has 373 ODI runs in Vizag across three innings at an average of 186.5 with two centuries including a 150+ score and a score of 99.
