India will win the series, let's wait and watch in how many days: Virender Sehwag
Sehwag said that Dinesh Chandimal-led visitors will give a fight to the Indians, this time around.
Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag said that Virat Kohli and his men will not take Sri Lanka lightly in the 3-Test series, starting in Kolkata tomorrow (16th November). India had earlier handed a whitewash to the Lankans in the Test series, which was played in the Island nation. And the trend continued in the limited overs competition too, as India ended the series with a 9-0 victory margin across the three formats.
Sehwag said that Dinesh Chandimal-led visitors will give a fight to the Indians, this time around. He feels that the 2-0 victory in Tests over Pakistan has injected a lot of confidence in the Lankan camp and they will look to play better cricket.
Victory over Pakistan will give them confidence: Sehwag
“They (Sri Lanka) have recently beaten Pakistan in the Test series and they will be confident playing here but the question here is will the three Test matches last for five days? Is the Sri Lankan team capable of fighting the Indian team for five days? I think India will definitely win the series but let’s wait and watch in how many days,” Sehwag told India TV while speaking on “Cricket Ki Baat” show.
On the debate over the opening slot, Sehwag feels Murali Vijay should get to open alongside Shikhar Dhawan. He added that Vijay was scoring big hundreds and he wasn’t dropped but was sidelined due to injury. He justifies his selection by saying that KL Rahul hasn’t converted the good starts and that is where he is lagging behind. “Murali Vijay has more hundreds than KL Rahul and whenever he crosses the half-century mark, he converts it into a big hundred. If KL Rahul had scored a hundred or a double hundred in the seven consecutive fifties which he scored, then I would have definitely considered his name. I feel you give preference to the player who can score big runs in Test cricket and Vijay was not dropped from the squad, he was out due to his injury.”
“I think Vijay will be preferred over KL Rahul and Dhawan, who is in good form, will definitely play. In my opinion, a player who is scoring big runs, should be preferred in Test cricket,” said Sehwag.
