'Indian pace battery is the biggest plus point over the last 3 years' - MSK Prasad
MSK Prasad term as Indian chief selector will end after Team India plays 3 T20Is, 2 ODIs and 2 Tests.
MSK Prasad was appointed as Indian chief selector in 2015. His term is coming to an end after BCCI decided not to extend his tenure in the recently held Annual General Meeting. Prasad faced a lot of criticism from every nook and corner over his selections during his tenure. But, he certainly achieved a lot during his tenure as a selector.
The MSK Prasad-led Indian selection panel found themselves under the scanner for picking Vijay Shankar over Ambati Rayudu in the 2019 World Cup squad and for the exclusion of Sanju Samson from T20I squad without giving him a single match. Prasad had also grabbed many headlines after he had stated that their panel has moved on from MS Dhoni and are looking forward to the young wicket-keeper.
However, it was under his selection panel when Team India won their first-ever Test series in Australia. Keeping his wins and losses aside, MSK Prasad recently opened up on the biggest positive that he had during his term in the last four years.
MSK Prasad looks happy with his work as Indian chief selector
Now, MSK Prasad in an interview said that the current Indian fast bowling unit is arguably the best in the world. He also added that it is the biggest positive he had achieved in his term. In further explanation, he said that his panel was very clear about the away tours. However, it was the combined effort of the team management that they achieved significant results. As per him, their panel was well aware of the required players beforehand going into any series.
“The pace battery is the biggest plus point over the last 3 years. Definitely, no doubt that we have the best fast bowling unit at the moment. See, we were clear about the away series that were scheduled beforehand. It was a combined effort of both the senior and the India A team management along with the selection committee. We had a very, very clear roadmap,” MSK Prasad said as quoted by India Today.
Today, Team India has a great bowling attack and the bench strength also looks very strong and it was a triangular effort of India A team management, selection panel, and senior side’s team management.
“Today we a healthy fast bowling attack. Even the bench strength is very good. Also, we had a healthy relationship with the India A team management headed by Rahul Dravid. We also share a lot of information. From there we took it to the senior team management. It’s a triangular effort,” he added.
