Indian pacers cause selection headache ahead of Mohali Test
The Indian team management is facing a selection headache ahead of the start of the third Test against England at Mohali. Indian Paceman Mohammed Shami, Umesh Yadav, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Ishant Sharma are the options available for Virat Kohli.
Indian head coach, Anil Kumble might not be tested as much as he would like but has surely got the start he would have liked when it comes to the pressures of being the Indian coach. Although it is going bells and whistles at the moment, Kumble seems quite pleased with the performances of both Mohammed Shami and Umesh Yadav.
The duo has filled their roles rather well given the fact that the Indian pacers have been in and out with a few injuries in recent times. Kumble reiterated that the bowlers have been quite impressive, to say the least, given the fact that they are able to bowl with such intensity and being relentless as well.
“I am very impressed (by pacers’ efforts). The bowlers have been really brilliant. It was not easy because they bowled close to 240 overs in Rajkot and then after three days they had to bowl almost 200 overs. Never easy, you know, going out there back-to-back. You may have five bowlers but still, the effort and the way they responded and went about being relentless in their pursuit to go out there and win, was evident,” Kumble said.
Chetan Sharma, former India great also reiterated that both pacers have been a class act in recent times. Mohammed Shami was one who had impressed Chetan Sharma the most.
“Both the pacers have been a class act. We have finally found two pacers who can easily clock 140km, which augurs well for the future of the team. I am very pleased with Shami who has returned from injury a better bowler. After Zaheer Khan’ retirement, I think there was a vacuum in the side with regards to a pacer who can reverse swing and bowl with speed,” Sharma said.
