The Indian bowlers, both pacers, and spinners have been receiving a lot of merit for their exceptional performances in both South Africa and Sri Lanka, and their very own mentor, team’s bowling coach Bharat Arun has joined the bandwagon. Arun is full of praise for the bowlers for the work they did on both the South Africa and Sri Lanka pitches but is particularly more impressed with how they performed against the Proteas.

India bowled out South Africa in all three Test matches they played, and in the following ODI series, spin duo Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal wreaked havoc. Talking to India Today, Arun said it was important to win matches overseas, and he was pleased that it was the bowlers who did the job for India.

“I feel really great. At the beginning when we started off, we said to win matches outside we need to be consistent. But the journey started in Sri Lanka,” Arun said. “Biggest challenge was in South Africa but the bowlers came to the party in South Africa,” he added.

The rise of Washington Sundar

India fielded a young and inexperienced side in the recent tri-series but surprisingly, even the reserve bowlers performed exceptionally well. Washington Sundar was simply outstanding in the tournament. Arun said that India has a lot of exciting bowling prospects who need to be given opportunities in order to recognize their talent.

“Our mission is to have a pool of bowlers who can play for India. We knew we have the talent in India but it is also about giving them the opportunity to test them.”

Arun’s take on Ashwin and Jadeja

With the influx of new talents, besides the permanent place of Kuldeep and Chahal in limited-overs, Ravi Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja’s future in the ODI and T20I set-up looks bleak. Speaking on this, Arun said, “I think Ashwin and Jadeja have done exceptionally well in Test cricket. They have won many matches for India but as far as ODI is concerned we are happy we have lot of options to chose from and it augurs well for us.”
