India’s flamboyant test Opener Murali Vijay fined for having a Controversial logo on his Bat: India’s test opener Murali Vijay has been fined in rather unusual terms for having a controversial logo on his bat. The departure of India’s Test specialist from Bangladesh has coincided with a fine slapped over him for not following ICC regulations for logos on bats. It seems that the logo exceeded the permissible length of 9 inches and that’s what has resulted in the fine of 25% of his match fee.
“According to the new ICC rules, length of the sponsors’ logo can’t be more than nine inches. But it was found that Vijay’s bat flouted the rule,” a team official told the Hindustan Times. ICC’s objection, according to the team official, was because of an additional logo beneath the main sponsor’s logo on Vijay’s bat. The official added that, “Vijay was told that his bat didn’t conform to ICC rules and was penalised 25 percent of his match fees. He accepted the decision,”
He has the SS logo on his bat, below which there was an MVJ8 logo. It is to be taken into account that the Indian opener used a similar logo on the tour of Australia. Another interesting aspect in this tale is that the cricketer uses the same name MVJ8 as his instagram account and @mvj888 is the twitter handle that he officially uses.
Meanwhile Indian players Ishant Sharma, Karn Sharma, Harbhajan Singh, Vijay, Cheteshwar Pujara, Wriddhiman Saha and Varun Aaron will be replaced by skipper MS Dhoni and seven other limited-overs specialists for the three-ODI series beginning June 18. Apart from Dhoni, Suresh Raina, Axar Patel, Ravindra Jadeja, Ambati Rayudu, Dhawal Kulkarni, Stuart Binny and Mohit Sharma have arrived in Bangladesh for the ODI leg of the tour.
