Injury-prone Pat Cummins to make Australia comeback

At 23, Pat Cummins has had more injuries than some of the pacers would ever have in his career. However, after having made comeback after comeback, the latest comeback to the side will hopefully be a permanent one as far as Pat Cummins is concerned. Having been named in the side for the upcoming series against New Zealand, Steve Smith hopes that this would be a launch pad for the fast-bowler to kick off from.

Cummins kicked-off his Test match career with some tremendous bowling against the South Africans which saw him conclude with figures of 7/117. While he did indeed have a dream Test match debut, what followed was an injury-ravaged campaign consummated by Stress fractures and other such niggles. Trevor Hohns, the interim chief selector stated that he was indeed pleased to see him back in the grand scheme of things.

“It looked like he bowled with some good pace so it’s nice to have the option of Starc, Hazlewood, and Cummins at our disposal,” Smith told Australian Associated Press in Sydney on Wednesday. “It’s very exciting.”

Steve Smith went on to add that he expected Cummins to make it back into the Test scene as well. “Obviously he’s going to play these one-dayers. I dare say he’ll play the one-dayers at the back end of the summer as well and I think after Christmas he might be playing some Shield cricket,” Smith added.

Speaking about the Indian tour, Smith also stated that a call would be taken on whether or not he is up to the task for the Indian conditions. The Indians however, are on top of their game at the moment given the fact that they have taken an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series. “India’s possible. He’s obviously got to play some Shield cricket first and see how he goes … how his body holds up. So far he’s going pretty well.”
