Former Pakistani batsman and skipper Inzamam-ul-Haq has said that tainted duo Mohammad Asif and Salman Butt deserve a second chance. The duo along with Mohammad Amir had been imprisoned and subsequently banned following evidence of match fixing. The current Afghanistan coach has said that Asif and Butt have the right to compete in cricket, just as the other players.

“Once a person completes his sentence, he has the right to live and play and the right to do everything else,” Inzamam told AFP in an interview in New Delhi.

“So I believe the other players should also get a chance to make a return,” said Inzamam, who played with the pair in the later stages of his career.

Mohammad Amir has seemed to have re-found his form and vigor he had prior to the ban. Inzamam was full of praise for the 23-year-olds’ talent.

“The sheer fact that a person can have so much talent, that even after a long hiatus he can bowl with the same vigor and precision” is amazing, he said.

“The way he bowled against India it didn’t look as if he was making a comeback after five long years. It was a treat to watch.”

Inzamam also stated that Pakistan go into the World T20 with a chance of winning. He also stated that the uncertainty of the format gives any team a chance to pull off a win the condensed format.

“T20 is an unpredictable format, so you cannot rule out any team’s chances,” said Inzamam.

Inzamam-ul-Haq called time on his international Test career after amassing 8830 Test runs.
