IPL 10: Best XI of the players aged 30+
It's not just the youngsters who are shining in the IPL
#9 Mitchell McClenaghan – 30 years
The Kiwi fast bowler has been vital in Mumbai Indians’ success for the past couple of years. He had bagged 17 wickets last year which was the most for his franchise. This season, he has taken 15 wickets in 10 matches so far and is the leading wicket-taker for his side and the third highest overall. The left-hander has bowled with pace and the variations in bowling have rendered him heaps of wickets. Lasith Malinga has been Mumbai’s best bowler for a number of years but this year, he hasn’t found his usual form and that’s where McClenaghan has stepped up and has been so clinical in the team’s success this year.
#10 Ashish Nehra – 38 years
Usually, age takes a toll on a player’s body but Nehra only seems to be getting better with passing years. He is 38-years-old now but is bowling like a 20-year-old. The pace is intact and the swing is evident too. He played the initial 5 games for Sunrisers Hyderabad and picked up 8 wickets but later an injury has kept him out of the side. His great run in the domestic cricket as well previous year’s IPL had earned him a call back in the Indian T20 squad and reports suggest that he is in selectors’ sights for the ICC Champions Trophy as well.
#11 Zaheer Khan – 38 years
It’s been a while since the Indian fast bowler called it quits from international cricket but he is still going strong in IPL. At the age of 38, he is doing a mighty fine job of leading the Delhi Daredevils side. His side had lost the big players like Quinton de Kock and JP Duminy before the start of the league and now is short of any big names. Yet Zaheer has kept the spirits up and turned with better performances than what was expected of the side. As far as his personal record this season is concerned, he has picked up 7 wickets so far in 7 matches and doesn’t look like he is no more playing international cricket.
