IPL 10 : Under 25 players who grabbed the spotlight

Indian Premier League has always been a platform where young cricketers prove their talent. The raw talents hidden in various regions are unearthed and their capability is showcased in front of millions of fans. It has been since its inception when a certain Swapnil Asnodkar from Goa grabbed the limelight while playing for Shane Warne-led team Rajasthan Royals. This year also was no different from the rest. The decade-long tradition of finding new players was continued. Many new names added to the emerging players’ list. A lot of new and young talents fought hand-in-hand with international superstars for their team. Many under-25 players, whom many didn’t know before the tournament, performed exceptionally well in the tournament. Also, well-known young players who have already represented their countries performed up to their reputation. Here are some of the U-25 players who grabbed the spotlight: #1 Nitish Rana Nitish Rana. (Photo Source: BCCI) Mumbai Indians is one of the most settled sides of IPL. They don’t change their playing XI much. But Nitish Rana caused a stir in their more or less settled XI. The Delhi-based left-handed batsman was given 17 matches this season because of his stellar knocks. In those 13 chances, he has handsomely scored 333 runs, averaging more than 30 runs per game. His strike rate was also impressive as it was over 125. He struck three wonderful fifties this year and has made it to our list of “U25 players who grabbed the spotlight”. #2 Jasprit Bumrah Jasprit Bumrah. (Photo Source: Twitter) Unlike Nitish, Jasprit is not an unknown player who grabbed the spotlight this season. He has been doing exceptionally well for the Indian team and is a vital cog for the Men in Blue. Bumrah is considered as one of the best death over bowlers in the world at the moment. He has justified his tag of ‘Death over specialist’. In 16 matches, he has picked up 20 wickets. What is more impressive about his figures is that his economy rate is just over 7 runs per over which is great in the shortest format of the game. #3 Kuldeep Yadav Kuldeep Yadav. (Photo Source: Twitter) Coming into the spinners section, Kuldeep is an exciting and unique bowler. The left-arm chinaman bowler was impressive for the national side before coming into IPL. He took a four-wicket haul in the final test against baggy greens at Dharamshala. He has picked up 12 wickets in as many matches for the Gautam Gambhir-led franchise Kolkata Knight Riders. Once again, a low economy rate is maintained by a youngster as Kuldeep gave just above 8 runs per over. #4 Basil Thampi Basil Thampi of Gujarat Lions. He just needs a bit of conditioning as his ecomony rate of over 9 runs per over does not justify his valiant efforts. In 12 matches, he has picked up 11 wickets. The stats do not tell you how well he bowled in the league. He has the potential to be the next death-over specialist for India. Just 23 years of age, Thampi showed a lot of promise in his debut season. It is now to be seen whether he can live up to the expectation or not. #5 Rashid Khan Rashid Khan of Sunrisers Hyderabad. (Photo Source: Twitter) The first and the only overseas player in our list is Rashid Khan. Just 18 years of age, the Afghan sensation has left everyone awestruck with his wonderful performances. In his debut season, he has made a name for himself. Many fans thought INR 4 crores price tag for an 18-year old spinner from Afghanistan who will be playing his first IPL was not unjustified. But with 17 wickets in 14 matches, he has answered all the questions put forward by critics. With an economy rate of just over 6 runs per over, no wonder why he has been David Warner’s go-to man all throughout the season. #6 Washington Sundar Washington Sundar. (Photo Source: Twitter) The man with a quirky name, Washington Sundar joined Rising Pune Supergiant as the injury replacement for Ravichandran Ashwin. Not much was expected from the 17-year old teenager, but he left a mark in his very first IPL at such a young age. He became the youngest player to play in an IPL final.Not only that, he gave away just 13 runs against the star studded Mumbai batting lineup. Hence, he became the bowler to concede the least number of runs (4-over spell) in an IPL final. A lot more will be expected from this young man in the coming years. A lot more will be expected from this young man in the coming years. #7 Rishabh Pant Rishabh Pant of Delhi Daredevils. The 19-year old wicket-keeper batsman has made a place for himself in the hearts of fans to such an extent that some Indian fans wanted to see Pant in the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 roster and not Mahendra Singh Dhoni. But Pant has given the reason to say so time and again. In 14 matches, he has scored 366 runs with an average of over 25. More than his average, his strike rate is impressive. Not many can score runs at a strike rate of nearly 170, but Pant has done exactly that. Due to his casual hard-hitting game style, he has been compared with former Indian opener Virender Sehwag. Watching the left-handed Virender Sehwag hit sixes is surely a treat to the eyes.
