IPL 2016: 5 Best spinners of the tournament

IPL is perhaps the best platform for a spinner to showcase his talent. The reasons being the pitches and the conditions which are far more suitable and conducive to spin bowling than any part of the world. As expected, the tweakers did not disappoint at all and performed well on most occasions. In fact, some were the top performers for their respective franchises and gave some of the most performances of this season. Here is the list of the best spinner in the IPL 2016: 1.Adam Zampa – RPS: Adam Zampa. (Photo Source: BCCI) Adam Zampa can be easily rated as the best spinner of the tournament. The upcoming leg spinner from Australia looked very lethal with his flat leg breaks and sharp cricketing brains. Zampa got his opportunity to make his IPL debut late in the tournament. He was initially overlooked by MS Dhoni but was later provided with the opportunity after first preference Murugan Ashwin began to fade away. Zampa then proved his worth by snapping 12 wickets in just 5 games at a superb average of 9.58. His 6/12 against eventual champions Sunrisers Hyderabad was the best individual bowling performance by a bowler in this tournament. 2. Yuzvendra Chahal – RCB: Yuzvendra Chahal. (Photo Source: BCCI) Yuzvendra Chahal was the backbone of the RCB bowling line-up. The RCB bowling attack looked toothless owing to injury issues and lack of effectiveness. But, it was Chahal who showed the spark right from the start of the tournament. He was Kohli’s go-to man when it came to applying brakes to the opposition’s run flow and find the important breakthrough. Eventually, his brilliant show with the ball saw him end up as the second highest wicket-taker of the tournament with 21 wickets at 21.30 with an impressive economy rate of 7.42. He also earned his maiden India call-up for the tour of Zimbabwe on the back of these performances. 3. Axar Patel – KXIP: Axar Patel. (Photo Source: BCCI) Axar Patel did not let his team’s flop show affect his individual performance. It was a challenging season for him. The tall left-arm spinner from Gujarat consistently took wickets despite getting hit for runs. In all, he ended up with 13 wickets in 14 matches at a slightly higher average of around 29. His best performance of the tournament was the 4/21 which he took against Gujarat Lions at Rajkot. He claimed four wickets in five balls in that match, including the first hat-trick of the season, to pave the way for Kings XI Punjab’s win. 4. IPL 2016 was not extraordinary for the seasoned leg – spinner, but did his job well most of the time and remained a potent threat for the opposition. The attacking leg-spinner finished the tournament joint highest wicket taker for his franchise with 13 scalps in 14 games with best bowling figures of 4/11. 5. Sunil Narine – KKR: Sunil Narine KKR. (Photo Source: BCCI) Sunil Narine was a very different bowler in the IPL 2016. He came in after a long hiatus and with a remodelled side-on action. Unfortunately, the threat factor in him seemed to be lacking. He started off slowly before he gathered the momentum and gave some impressive performance. In all, he played 11 matches and took 11 wickets at a reasonable economy rate of 7.09. He ended the tournament on a high with 3/26 against Sunrisers Hyderabad, his best bowling figures this season.
