IPL 2018: 5 fastest balls of the tournament

The eleventh edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) proved to be one of the closest in terms of the competition. The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) were crowned Champions for the third time as they defeated the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the title clash at the Wankhede Stadium. The tournament also saw some of the amazing fast bowlers being unearthed by the teams which gave tough times to the batsmen only on the back of the pace they possessed.

While the foreign bowlers are expected to be on this list, even the young crop of Indian fast bowlers have shown their prowess this time around. Currently, only Umesh Yadav has an ability to hit the mark of 145 kph consistently among the pacers in the Indian team. However, this season has given some hope as the youngsters have put their hands up troubling some of the best batsmen with a sheer pace.

5. Shivam Mavi – (Kolkata Knight Riders) – 149.86 kph

Shivam Mavi impressed everyone with his pace during the U19 World Cup earlier this year which the Indian colts won by beating Australia in the final. It was the perfect timing for the players to perform as they were snapped up by several franchises in the mega-auction which followed. Mavi was picked by the KKR team for a whopping amount of Rs 3 Crore and the youngster didn’t disappoint. He ran in fast and bent his back while bowling every delivery in order to pick the wickets by foxing the batsman in front of him.

In the process, Mavi went on to bowl a brilliant delivery which clocked 149.86 kph during one of the matches he played. It was heartening to see the Indian youngster being able to generate such pace. Though he was immensely expensive this season, Mavi will surely come back as a better bowler next year. He could pick only 5 wickets in the nine matches he played and conceded runs at an economy of 9.64.
