IPL 2018: AB de Villiers confident about RCB squad
Royal Challengers Bangalore finished the 2017 edition at the bottom of the table.
Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) has been among the very few teams in the Indian Premier League (IPL) who haven’t won the championship thus far. They have boasted off some of the most explosive players in the world, however, have stumbled during crunch moments. They played the final against the Deccan Chargers and the Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2009 and 2016 respectively.
Nevertheless, on both occasions, they were slapped with comprehensive defeats. AB de Villiers was bagged by the franchise in 2011 after he played three seasons for the Delhi Daredevils. He has carved himself as an indispensable element of the team with his swashbuckling brand of cricket. The South African has been retained by RCB on every occasion, bearing in mind the impact he has had for them.
“Balance of youth and experience”- AB de Villiers
The Proteas cricketer sounded confident regarding the composition of their squad in a bid to turn their fortunes around in this edition of the tournament. “The RCB class of 2018 is exciting, a balance of youth and experience, fresh and resolved to delight our supporters around the country, to realise our potential on the field and, hopefully, to take the trophy.” he wrote in his column in Times of India (TOI)
The 34-year old also talked about RCBs abysmal outing against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) last time around when they were shot out for 49 runs in Kolkata. “It’s a tough start. Nobody in our organisation needs reminding we were bowled out for 49 at Eden Gardens last year, but we’re looking forward, not back… looking to attack with both bat and ball, to play with energy, flair and courage,” he added.
The opening day of the event was a witness to a jaw-dropping encounter between the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and the Mumbai Indians (MI) at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Meanwhile, RCB would wish to shed the disappointment of the previous season and commence their tournament on an impressive note.
