IPL 2018: Ben Dwarshuis recalls the moment of elation when he was picked by KXIP
He is also confident of performing well for the team this year.
The fast bowler of Australia Ben Dwarshuis is having a great time in India during his maiden stint in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He was bought by Kings XI Punjab in the auction this year after an intense bidding with Rajasthan Royals (RR) for a whopping amount of Rs 1.4 Crore. Interestingly, his base price was only Rs 20 Lakhs and the bowler was sought only after his heroics in the Big Bash League (BBL). However, the cricketer from New South Wales has recalled the moment of joy for him after being picked in the IPL by KXIP.
Dwashuis was in great form with the ball in hand in the BBL his year and his exploits helped him earn a call-up to the Australian team in the shortest format of the game. Though he didn’t make his debut in that series, he must have learnt a great deal about the game at the highest level. Australia won that series and the cricketer has played his part in it only to prove his worth ahead of the IPL.
I was over the moon
Ben Dwarshuis, in his interview to the official website of KXIP, recalled the moment of elation when he picked by the franchise for the first in the cash-rich T20 league. He is excited to play in the IPL now and is training hard to feature in the playing XI. His excitement is well justified as just before the auction he was an unknown Australian bowler and suddenly he was picked in Australian side and in the IPL auction.
“I was over the moon. It all happened within one week, the call-up for Australia first, and then a couple of days later I was lucky enough to be picked up by Kings XI Punjab,” he said while memorising the historical moment in his career. Though he also went on to clarify that he became nervous as the time passed and hoped that he can prove his worth in the tournament.
“I was very excited, but then as time passed, I started getting a little nervous. Once I start training in India with the guys and play a few games, the nerves will settle, and hopefully I will put up a few good performances for the side,” Dwarshuis added.
