IPL 2018: CSK team owner reveals it was Dhoni who wanted Harbhajan in the camp
Recently, the team owner of the CSK revealed the reasons why they went ahead with the veterans at the auctions.
The Chennai Super Kings is all set to make a comeback to the IPL roster this year. The fans are super excited to see the Men in Yellow in action. Also, the fans are eager to see MS Dhoni back in action as the captain of the most successful IPL team in the history of the tournament. However, at the auctions of IPL 2018, CSK made some very strange moves.
While most of the franchises focused on roping in the services of young colts, the Chennai franchise opted to go with veteran cricketers. Many even mocked CSK for fielding a senior side at the auctions. This included the likes of Kedar Jadhav, Faf du Plessis, Harbhajan Singh, and MS Dhoni himself. Recently, the team owner of the CSK revealed the reasons why they went ahead with the veterans at the auctions.
Commenting on the selection of Kedar Jadhav, the most expensive buy for CSK at the auctions, the CSK CEO mentioned that Jadhav is a valuable addition considering the fact that he can bowl as well. Also, he remarked that the management was very sure about going for Jadhav.
“Kedar’s slow bowling and batting abilities make him a great buy. We had decided before going into the auctions that we are going to go all out for these guys. We are very happy with the team we have got,” CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan said as per the quotes in Times of India.
On Harbhajan’s selection
Speaking about the selection of Harbhajan Singh, the CEO mentioned that it was MS Dhoni who had asked the team management to go for Harbhajan Singh at the auctions. Interestingly, CSK roped in the services of Harbhajan but did not show similar interest for Ravichandran Ashwin, another bowler who offers the same trade.
Harbhajan had also remarked that bringing in youth does not necessarily guarantee success to any team. He had rightly cited that there is no substitute for experience.
“Youth does not necessarily translate into matchwinning performances. There is no substitute for experience — we are players who have walked the difficult road and know how to deal with it,” Harbhajan Singh quoted.
