IPL 2018: Dejected Virat Kohli laments poor fielding as the reason for their loss against KKR
Kohli's knock of 68 runs went in vain as RCB succumbed to their 5th loss of this season.
Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) lost yet another game this season and this time it was Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) who got better of them in their home ground. The wicket at Chinnaswamy Stadium has continued to unleash surprises as it has failed to give the featherbed for the hosts whose batting is strong always. Though the heroics from their Virat Kohli helped them post a competitive total but Chris Lynn‘s innings knocked them out of the game. However, the captain of RCB felt that they didn’t deserve to win the way they fielded.
Kohli’s 68-run knock had propelled RCB to 175 after their 20 overs who badly missed the presence of AB de Villiers in their line-up. But they still had hope as the ball was turning a lot and even the bowlers put up a decent show only to denied by their fielding. They could’ve scalped Chris Lynn when he had scored only 7 runs but Murugan Ashwin dropped a sitter and he went on to stay unbeaten until the end. Even the ground fielding was poor as there were a lot of fumbles which went for four.
We don’t deserve to win
Virat Kohli was understandably disappointed after the loss as he tried his best individually with the bat and on the field but he was let down by his teammates again.
“The pitch is bringing out surprises everytime we bat. Looked better than it played. 175 was a really good score I felt. If we field like that, we don’t deserve to win. We need to be hard on ourselves and be more brave with the ball and in the field, we need to correct those things going forward. We didn’t deserve to win with the way we fielded. We weren’t just good enough tonight. I can’t pinpoint anything at this point,” he said at the post-match presentation.
We need to 6 out of 7
Kohli also understood the fact that they needed to win almost every game from here on now to qualify for the playoffs. “We got to win 6 out of 7 to qualify from here. We need to be in that mindset to take every match as a virtual semi-final from here and there’s no room for complacency. Need guys stepping up their game at the right time. Hopefully, they understand that moving forward,” he added.
RCB face Mumbai Indians (MI) next on Tuesday who are also in a similar position and the game is expected to be a humdinger of an encounter.
