IPL 2018: Irfan Pathan reveals the reason why MS Dhoni is a great leader
Dhoni has been in great form this season.
There is little doubt about MS Dhoni’s credentials as a captain even after him stepping down from the position at the highest level. He is currently leading Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and has brought to the fore his leadership skills yet again. While the former Australian cricketer Matthew Hayden has already termed him as the captain of the tournament so far, Irfan Pathan has spilt the beans on why Dhoni is the greatest ever leader the cricket has seen.
Irfan is currently working with Star Sports, the official broadcaster of T20 extravaganza, and analyses the game throughout during the pre-match and post-match shows. Ahead of the game between CSK and Mumbai Indians (MI) on Saturday, he reflected on the way Dhoni makes the young players in his team comfortable. He also praised his fine cricketing brain which is always working on the field while leading his side.
He makes sure he gives you respect
Irfan Pathan himself has played under the captaincy of MS Dhoni for a long time and knows the way he treats the young players in the team. “Anybody can go up to Dhoni freely and have a chat. Even if it’s your first day in the team, there’s no reason for you to hesitate. Dhoni makes sure he gives you respect and full attention when he’s interacting with you. Just because you’re a junior, that doesn’t mean he will not take you seriously or show disrespect. That’s what makes him so great,” he said during the show.
As far as the individual performance of Dhoni is concerned this season, he has once again proved that he is the best finisher in the world. The veteran has regained his form while batting up the order and is the second-highest run-getter for his team this time around. CSK is currently at the top of the ladder and will play their next game against Delhi Daredevils (DD) on Monday at Ferozshah Kotla Stadium.
