IPL 2018: KXIP owner Mohit Burman reveals the strategy they employed in the auction
He was also confident about their decision to appoint Ashwin as the skipper.
Kings XI Punjab was one of the franchises which caught the attention of everyone during the IPL auction earlier this year. They were going aggressively for every other player in the marquee list which left the other teams perplexed. They had retained only Axar Patel in the player retention event and it was obvious that they wanted some of the T20 specialists in their side. However, the owner of the franchise Mohit Burman has now revealed the strategy they used during the event which held in January.
KXIP, in the end, managed to bag some of the star players around the world in their squad which will now aim to triumph in the upcoming season. The franchise hasn’t won the coveted title ever since the inception of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2008. They’ve appointed Ravichandran Ashwin as their skipper this year who will be eager to prove himself as the leader of the pack in the shortest format. He will lead some of the big names in the World cricket like Yuvraj Singh and Chris Gayle.
We were clever thinkers
Mohit Burman, the owner of Kings XI Punjab, revealed the strategy they employed during the IPL auction in January where they went for a complete overhaul of the squad. He believed that they possessed some of the clever thinkers which helped them in bagging some of the Indian stars which lacked in their team in last few years.
“Earlier we were a bit light in this department (Indian players) and were clever thinkers in terms of spending the money. But our buying strategy has changed to include more stars as well as include the youngsters and give the best possible XI to the coaches so that we can win the tournament,” he said in an interview to News 18. Mohit also seemed confident about their newly appointed captain and backed the decision of Virender Sehwag and Brad Hodge.
“A few nerves yes but I am looking forward to what should be an exciting season. Hodge and Sehwag have made a consensual decision and I totally agree with it. I feel this year you’re going to see one of our best performances ever,” Mohit added.
