IPL 2018, Match 27, CSK vs MI - Mumbai Indians Player Ratings

The Chennai Super Kings were humbled in their adopted backyard by the Mumbai Indians. The visiting side beat the Men in Yellow by 8 wickets in a game that was more or less a must win game for the former. Coming in to the game, the Mumbai camp had five defeats to their name in the six matches that they had played. Hence, to stay alive in the competition, they were the more desperate side to win the game.

In the match, the Mumbai Indians won the toss and opted to bowl first. Chennai Super Kings got the momentum going their way with Suresh Raina and Ambati Rayudu adding 71 runs for the second wicket in the match. After the dismissal of Rayudu, the run scoring took a heavy toll. The wickets fell in clusters towards the end and the innings crashed big time.

Suresh Raina’s unbeaten 75 off 47 balls took the CSK total to 169/5 in the stipulated 20 overs. In the run chase, Mumbai Indians got a very good start with Evin Lewis and Suryakumar Yadav adding 69 runs for the first wicket. Both the openers scored handy forties to keep their side interested in the run chase. But the real impetus was provided by the MI skipper Rohit Sharma, who played an unbeaten 56 to see his side over the line in the match.

Evin Lewis – 6/10

Evin Lewis finished the day with a good score to his name. However, the ones who saw the innings knew that the Caribbean star did not have a great time at the crease. He looked struggling at the crease and was not at all comfortable in the match. He finished with a score of 47 to his name in 43 balls with just 3 fours and 2 sixes to his name.

Suryakumar Yadav – 7/10

Suryakumar Yadav has been a revelation for the Mumbai Indians in the tournament. He has excelled in the role of the opener in the tournament and continued to do so in this particular game as well. Surya scored 44 off just 34 balls in the match with five fours and a six to his name.

Rohit Sharma – 9/10

Rohit Sharma was the star of the show for the Mumbai camp in the match. Rohit played the anchoring match winning knock on the day. He remained unbeaten on 56 off just 33 balls with 6 fours and 2 sixes in the match. He changed the course of the game in the penultimate over of the game when he clobbered 17 runs off the bowling of Shardul Thakur.

Ishan Kishan – 2/10

Ishan did not have a lot to do in the game. He did not get a chance to bat in the game as Rohit Sharma promoted himself ahead of Ishan in the run chase. Also, Hardik Pandya was promoted ahead of the youngster. In the field, he did a fair job with the keeping gloves.

JP Duminy – Not Assigned

JP Duminy did not have a big role in the game. His services with the bat were not needed as the top order did the job fot the MI side.

Hardik Pandya – 4/10

Hardik Pandya was quite expensive with the ball in hand on the day. In the four overs that he bowled, he ended up conceding 39 runs. Much to his relief, he managed to take the wicket of Sam Billings in the later part of the CSK innings. With the bat, he played the second fiddle to Rohit Sharma and remained unbeaten on 13 runs.

Krunal Pandya – 6/10

Krunal Pandya was very impressive with the ball on the day. He provided the first breakthrough to his team in the match by dismissing Shane Watson early on in the innings. Later, he accounted for the wicket of Ambati Rayudu, who looked in a threatening form. Krunal finished with figures of 2/32 in the four overs that he bowled in the match.

Ben Cutting – 2/10

Ben Cutting was drafted in the playing eleven at the expense of Mustafizur Rahman. Cutting, however, did not get as many overs as Mustafizur had been bowling in the MI lineup. Cutting was given only one over to bowl and he ended up conceding 14 runs.

Mitch McClenaghan – 7/10

Mitch McClenaghan had an added responsibility to perform in the game. With no Mustafizur in the lineup, the onus was on the Kiwi pacer to lead from the front. He finished the innings as the pick of the bowlers for the Mumbai Indians. He gave away only 26 runs in the four overs that he bowled and accounted for the two big wickets of MS Dhoni and Dwayne Bravo.

Mayank Markande – 2/10

Mayank Markande has been the find of the season for the Mumbai camp. In this particular game though, he had a night to forget. He failed to take any wickets, nor did he look threatening to the CSK batsmen. In the 3 overs that he bowled, he gave away 30 runs.

Jasprit Bumrah – 6/10

Jasprit Bumrah has been a perennial performer for the MI outfit. He continued to perform well for his side in this game as well. He bowled with precision with the new ball in hand. Albeit he did not get any wickets, he ensured that the pressure was always on the batsmen when he bowled. In the four overs that he bowled, he conceded just 25 runs.
