It has been quite a few days for Windies’ young fast bowler Alzarri Joseph, who made history on his Indian Premier League (IPL) debut for the Mumbai Indians (MI) when he returned with the record figures of 6/12 against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). On April 13, Joseph went for 53 runs in his 3 overs at an economy of 17.66, as MI went down to Rajasthan Royals at the Wankhede.

This was their second loss in their home at the Wankhede Stadium, as DC had handed them a loss earlier in the tournament. This time, the Men in Blue, led by Rohit Sharma, fell short of defeating the Pink Army captained by Ajinkya Rahane, as a calculated onslaught on MI bowling by Jos Buttler, who made 89 in 43 balls with 7 sixes and 8 fours, ensured the Royals got a shot in the arm.

Kishan speaks in favour of Joseph

Alzarri Joseph has experienced the two distant spectrums of Indian Premier League, one being the fame of picking 6/12 and now the infamy of giving away 8 fours and 3 sixes against RR. But his teammate Ishan Kishan has come out to defend his bowler. “It’s part of game. The other day he took six wickets and helped defend a small total,” Kishan was quoted as saying by The Times of India (TOI).

However, Kishan admitted that Joseph’s over to Buttler, the 13th of the innings, where he conceded 28 runs including two sixes and four fours, changed the course of the match. “It was an important over as Rajasthan went ahead then. But still he’s a very good bowler and will make a strong come back,” said Kishan.

Joseph was later injured as he tried to stop a boundary and hurt his shoulder in the process and Kishan gave an update about his condition. “I don’t know about his injury status as he was on the physio’s table,” he said.
