IPL 2019: It is very frustrating for us, says Moeen Ali after RCB's sixth straight loss
"With all the frustration, it is difficult."
The day was different, the game was different and the opposition was different as well but the result remained the same – a loss for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). The Royal Challengers, on Sunday, lost to Delhi Capitals by 4 wickets to suffer their sixth straight loss this season. For the sixth game this season, the Royal Challengers failed to perform as a team and the result was there for everyone to see.
Asked to bat first, the three-time finalists managed just 149 runs in the stipulated 20 overs. Just a couple of days ago, they had piled up 205 for 3 against Kolkata Knight Riders but perhaps this is the inconsistency that has cost them big this season. After the batsmen’s poor show, the bowlers and fielders came up with an even worse effort. The bowlers bowled no-balls, the fielders dropped catches, missed run-out chances as Royal Challengers lost the game with more than an over remaining.
Poor bowling, fielding and batting have been a constant feature of Royal Challengers’ game this season and as a result, RCB are now on the verge of a premature elimination. The six-game losing streak is the joint worst start in the IPL. Delhi Capitals (then Delhi Daredevils) had lost their opening six games in the 2013 edition. The Royal Challengers now need a miracle to advance ahead of the group stage.
Their all-rounder Moeen Ali, who scored a quickfire 32 and bowled an economical spell of 1 for 22, admitted the RCB team was frustrated and rightly so.
“At the moment, it is very frustrating for us, as cricketers. We are doing the right things during our training, the coaches are giving everything we need and there out on the field, we are nervous at times and may be a little bit under pressure also.
“The mood in the camp is fine, but just frustrating as we are making the same mistakes almost every game, dropping catches, giving wickets away. You cannot afford to do that in the IPL and we know that we have to win all the [remaining] games. It is going to be a miracle,” Ali was quoted as saying to the media.
‘It is difficult’
Moeen further said that with all the players frustrated, executing the plans is becoming difficult. He said that the players are trying to enjoy themselves on the field but are not being able to do that.
“With all the frustration, it is difficult. We have [a] lot of young players; going into the games thinking you do not want to be the guy to make that mistake, you cannot afford to think like that. You have to back yourself, back your instincts. Just go out, play and enjoy the atmosphere. We are trying to do that, but it’s not happening,” said the English star.
