The defending champions Chennai Super Kings continued their winning streak as they won all the three matches they played in this season. They clinched a last over thriller against the Rajasthan Royals by eight runs who suffered their 3rd straight defeat. On a tricky track, skipper MS Dhoni came to the rescue of the home team. He scored an unbeaten 46-ball 75 to power CSK to 175/5 in the 20 overs. The Royals had their moments in the chase but Dwayne Bravo’s last over sealed it for the three-time champions.

CSK extends their winning streak:

6 – The Chennai Super Kings extended their winning streak at the Chepauk against the Rajasthan Royals to six matches. The Royals defeated the Super Kings at this venue way back in 2008 by ten runs while defending their total of 211/5.


6 – The Super Kings have won each of their last six matches in the IPL. Their winning streak began in the final league match in the previous edition. This is only the 3rd time that CSK has won six or more IPL games in succession. They won seven in a row during the 2013 edition and six on the trot in the 2014 season.


A game of milestones for Suresh Raina:

150 – This game was Suresh Raina’s 150th game in the IPL for the Chennai Super Kings. He is the first player to feature in as many matches for CSK. Virat Kohli (166 for RCB) is the only other player to feature in 150+ IPL matches for a single team. This game was also the 50th IPL game for Raina at the Chepauk.


6030 – Suresh Raina completed 6000 runs on Indian soil in the Twenty20 cricket when he was on six runs. He thus became the first player to aggregate 6000 T20 runs in a single country.


Samson @ 2000:

24y 140d – At the age of 24 years and 140 days, Sanju Samson became the youngest player to complete 2000 runs in the IPL. The previous youngest was Virat Kohli at the age of 24 years and 175 days during the 2013 edition.


Nearly the best for Dhoni:

75* – The unbeaten 75 by MS Dhoni in this game is the 2nd highest individual score for him in the IPL. His highest IPL score is 79* against the Kings XI Punjab in Mohali during the previous edition.


The 20th over legend:

503MS Dhoni has scored as many as 503 runs in the IPL during the 20th overs. He hit 36 fours and 41 maximums including three in a row to finish the CSK innings in this match. No other player in the IPL has even scored 250 runs during the 20th overs. 12.2% of Dhoni’s IPL runs have come in this period of the game only.
