The Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) got the better of the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in a high-scoring encounter at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. The Indian Premier League (IPL) is well and truly setting the stage on fire. It was some superb batsmanship on display from Sanju Samson, David Warner and it ended with a special helicopter shot from Rashid Khan as the chase got a bit cheeky.

After opting to bat first, the Royals lost their best batsman in Jos Buttler very early which brought Sanju Samson into the middle. He and Ajinkya Rahane rebuilt the innings first and after the halfway mark, both the batsmen counterattacked brilliantly with the skipper himself taking the lead. They added 119 runs for the second wicket before Rahane got out for 70 off just 49 balls.

After his dismissal, Samson took control of the proceedings as he bludgeoned the ball to all the parts of the ground with some class. In the process, the Kerala batsman also became the first centurion of the season. Even the batsman like Ben Stokes was in awe of his batting as he was standing at the other end. The Royals posted a mammoth total of 198 runs for the loss of two wickets after 20 overs.

Warner and Bairstow lead the way

David Warner and Jonny Bairstow led the way in the chase for the home team. The Sunrisers went past the 100-run mark inside the 10 overs and by the time, they lost the wicket of Warner, the southpaw had reached 69 runs and the score was 110/1. Bairstow also enjoyed his stay in the middle before Shreyas Gopal got better of him.

However, the second wicket triggered a collapse as the Sunrisers lost three more wickets in six deliveries with the victory in sight. While Jaydev Unadkat snaffled Kane Williamson, Gopal sent back Manish Pandey and Vijay Shankar. However, it was the duo of Yusuf Pathan and Rashid Khan who kept their cool and finished the chase in the penultimate over.

Man of the Match, Rashid Khan said:

I think I just try my best to be positive in each game and I am working hard and believing in my own skills, so that’s what is working for me. The plan was to bowl in the good length area to Buttler, I have got him out a few times, so that’s whay I came in early. I was mixing by variations. Didn’t want to give room to batsmen. I have five different leg-spin varations with different actions. I am working on my batting. My coaches – Moody, Murali and Laxman – have always backed me.

SRH skipper, Kane Williamson said:

A tough game, but Rajasthan Royals played really well. The openers set it up for us. A good collective effort, we needed parts to work well for us tonight. Rashid was supposed to bat 7 or 8 depending on the situation. His batting has improved quite a bit. It’s nice to be on the right side of the result tonight.

RR skipper, Ajinkya Rahane said:

First of all, 190+ on that wicket was really good. Initially when Sanju and me were batting the wicket looked slow – it was stopping an coming – and we thought 150 was a good total. But when players like Warner bat like that there is a very small margin for us.

They didn’t lose any momentum when someone got out and they played really well. We all know how talented Sanju is. He will go miles and consistency is going to be the key for him.
