IPL 2019: Match 8, Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Rajasthan Royals – Lesser Known Stats
Here are the lesser known stats recorded during Sunrisers first win of the season.
Sunrisers Hyderabad’s strength is considered to be their bowling but in the 2019 IPL, their batting has overshadowed it. A magical knock from Andre Russell took the game from SRH’s grasp during the first game while Sanju Samson’s unbeaten ton pushed the Rajasthan Royals’ total to 198/2. David Warner once again showed why he is the most consistent batsman in the history of IPL smashing a quick-fire 69 at the top. His knock was so important for the hosts who recorded their highest IPL chase with one over to spare.
Here are the lesser known stats recorded during Sunrisers first win of the season:
SRH’s bowling woes:
Over the years, the Sunrisers Hyderabad is known for their quality bowling line-up. However, the unit seems to be quite inconsistent in recent times as they conceded a total of five individual centuries since the start of 2018. During their first five IPL seasons i.e. from 2013 to 2017, the Sunrisers conceded only individual ton. Brendon McCullum scored one during the 2015 editions for the Chennai Super Kings.
In fact, there have been only six individual centuries in the IPL since the start of 2018 editions out of which five have been recorded against SRH. Shane Watson’s century against the Rajasthan Royals in the previous season is the only other hundred conceded by a team other than SRH since 2018.
Tough times for Bhuvneshwar continue:
Bhuvneshwar Kumar has lost his magical touch with the ball lately and has been quite expensive. He conceded 55 runs from his four overs in the game against Rajasthan; the joint-most he ever conceded in a Twenty20 match. Bhuvneshwar gave away 55 runs during the 2016 IPL game against the RCB team in Bangalore. Overall, Bhuvi conceded fifty-plus on three occasions in T20s thus far. The paceman conceded 51 runs against the Delhi Daredevils during the last year’s game at the Feroz Shah Kotla.
Vijay Shankar finally gets out:
The Tamil Nadu all-rounder Vijay Shankar has been fulfilling the role of a finisher for his IPL teams recently. He has been successful as this role recently and has finished unbeaten more often. In the game against RR, Shankar scored a quickfire 15-ball 35 to bring down the required run-rate in a big chase for the Sunrisers.
However, trying to guide the ball over leg-spinner Shreyas Gopal’s head, Shankar ended up holing out to the deep fielder. Thus, he got out for the first time in seven IPL innings. Last time he was dismissed in the IPL was also against RR during the previous season while playing for the Delhi Daredevils. Shankar aggregated 198 runs between his two dismissals in the IPL.
