IPL 2019: Twitter in awe of Jasprit Bumrah after his match-winning spell against RCB
In a game where almost every bowler was taken to the cleaners, Bumrah stood apart and eventually made the difference in the high-scoring thriller.
After a rare off day against Delhi Capitals last Sunday, Mumbai Indians pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah, on Thursday, once again showed why he is widely regarded as the best death bowler in the world right now. In a game where almost every bowler was taken to the cleaners, Bumrah stood apart and eventually made the difference in the high-scoring thriller. Mumbai eventually went on to win the game by six runs while defending 187.
Bumrah started the game on a feeble note with Royal Challengers skipper and his India teammate Virat Kohli slamming him for three fours. But the right-arm pacer bounced back strongly to bowl a decisive spell. He was re-introduced in the attack in the 14th over and made an immediate impact. On the fourth ball of the over, he picked the prized scalp of Kohli while conceding just three runs when the latter and AB de Villiers were at the crease.
Rohit Sharma then asked Bumrah to bowl the 17th and 19th over and he lived up to the expectation. In the seventeenth over, he conceded just 1 and picked the wicket of dangerous Shimron Hetmyer. In the penultimate over, the India star dismissed Colin de Grandhomme while conceding just 5. He finished the game with stunning figures of 3 for 22. Veteran Lasith Malinga then defended the 17 runs in the last over although the last ball he had bowled when the hosts needed 7 was a no-ball but the umpire had missed it.
Bumrah deservedly won the Man of the Match award for making the difference with his spell. Speaking after the game, he opened up on his strategy, saying: “You go ball by ball and you try to control the control-ables. You try to back yourself in the situation. You don’t go too far behind, I was just focussing on my plan and trying to back my strengths. I always try to back myself in any situation and execute the plan to perfection. I have always taken care of my body.”
The cricketing world, nonetheless, did not waste much time in heaping praise on Bumrah.
